You survived a brain injury, and you are far from done recovering. You don't need to go to a nursing home, but you have difficulties with day-to-day life and wonder if you are able to return to work. Where is help for people who don't recover immediately from a stroke or traumatic brain injury, but could make remarkable gains and increase independence with a little more time and care?

Help is here, and in your own home. Caroline Gammill is a skilled, experienced speech-language pathologist who has helped hundreds of patients in the post-acute stage of brain injury recovery. Many of her patients have returned to gainful employment and/or experienced increased quality of life and independence in the home and community.

Since beginning clinical practice in 2016, Caroline Gammill has worked with patients from all walks of life. Brain injuries can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. She has treated doctors and lawyers, police officers and former prisoners, teachers and janitors, CEOs and stay-at-home parents, and everyone in between.

Every brain injury is different and every patient deserves to be treated with individualized care. Your goals for yourself are the guiding principles in your treatment.

Motor Speech Disorders

Is your speech "slurred" or unclear? Do others have a hard time understanding you? Do you know what you want to say, but the sounds don't come out right? Caroline can evaluate and treat any of the following motor speech disorders: dysarthria, apraxia, and neurogenic stuttering.

Language Disorders

Do you have a hard time finding the right words? Or, do you know what you want to say, but you just can't get it out? When other people talk, does it sound like gibberish?Do you have a hard time reading and writing since your brain injury? Caroline can evaluate and treat aphasia, loss of language after a brain injury that can affect speaking, understanding, reading, and writing.

Cognitive Disorders

Do you have a hard time remembering things since your brain injury? Is it challenging to focus on one thing for more than a few minutes, especially when there are distractions? Is it difficult for you to sequence steps to tasks or to organize yourself? Caroline can evaluate and treat cognitive disorders and difficulties, including memory, attention, problem-solving, planning, organizing, and sequencing.

Pragmatics

Have other people told you that you are more rude, blunt, or short-tempered since your brain injury? Do you find yourself interrupting others often? Do you have a hard time staying on topic? Do other people seem to not enjoy talking to you anymore? Pragmatics, or social, language, can be affected after a brain injury, and this can seriously affect the quality of your relationships. Caroline can evaluate and treat pragmatic difficulties following brain injury.

Family Member Testimony

Caroline is not accepting insurance and is only accepting private pay clients at this time. Please contact her for current hourly rates. Services may be recommended 1-2 times a week per individual client needs and goals.
Please be advised that if you are a Medicare or Medicaid beneficiary, Caroline is unable to provide services for you at this time due to federal and state regulations.
